Call for papers: “Radio Waves: 90 Years Of Radio Broadcasting In Australia” – Old, New & Next Wave

Australia’s first radio exhibition was held in Sydney in September 1922. Whilst Wireless Telegraphy had been demonstrated by Marconi as far back as 1901, it wasn’t until the 1920s that the possibilities of radio broadcasting began to be realized, nowhere more so than in Australia. Hence it seems appropriate to look back at how Broadcasting in Australia has evolved over 90 years and where it is heading. As with all ASRA Conferences, we celebrate diversity and hope to include papers that explore changing listening habits, technologies and business models as well as key people and milestones.

Abstracts for paper presentations are now invited from researchers, archivists, preservation specialists, collectors, oral historians, academics, broadcast professional and creatives with an interest in all aspects of radio broadcasting and how it relates to popular culture. All papers detailing new and established research in the field will be considered, though preference may be given to papers that provide a clear historical context.
